Get ready to muck about with some clay and bring your favourite Aussie animals to life, or at least to something that looks like them. This hands-on session is perfect for kids aged 5 to 8 who fancy having a go at basic hand-building techniques with air-dry clay – no kiln required, so don't worry about setting fire to the house. Once the creatures have been shaped, the fun continues with a splash of watercolour paint to give them a bit of character (or just to cover up any wonky bits).

Before diving into the clay chaos, the young artists will take a stroll through Blak Douglas's exhibition The Halfway Line. It's a sneaky way to pick up some inspiration from the animals featured in his work – and maybe figure out how to make a wallaby that actually looks like a wallaby, rather than a confused platypus. All in all, a relaxed crafty afternoon where imagination and a bit of muddy fingers are highly encouraged.
